a bit about me
Tira Murray is a Ph.D. student at Georgia State University, passionate about social justice advocacy and Black culture, mainly focusing on black women and digital media. Her research focuses on the intersection of these three areas and how they can be used to empower marginalized communities. Tira is committed to using her work to positively impact society and promote diversity and inclusion in academia and the media industry.
Tira's academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Spanish from Bethune-Cookman University, a Master's degree in Interactive Media from Elon University, and a certificate of Africana Studies from Georgia State University. She has also worked in various roles in the media industry, including as a producer for a black women's web series. These experiences have helped to shape her research interests and to give her valuable insights into the challenges facing underrepresented groups in the media and beyond.
In addition to her academic work, Tira is also involved in various social justice organizations and initiatives. Tira is a two-time TEDx speaker (TEDxChapelHill, TEDxMercerIslandHSWomen). She strongly advocates for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of black women and other marginalized groups and is dedicated to using her research to create positive change. Tira's ultimate goal as a social justice practitioner is to use her expertise to make a meaningful difference in the world and to inspire others to do the same.
